Functional testing

Functional testing looks at physiological function (i.e. how the body functions at a molecular, cellular, tissue or organ level) rather than simply the presence of disease like conventional medical and diagnostic testing.

Whilst testing is kept to a minimum, it is often necessary to build up a complete profile of your health status currently. The costs of testing is separate to the cost of your Naturopathic consultation and will be discussed with you in detail before any referral is made.

Functional testing is generally non-invasive and typically involves a breath, blood, saliva, urine or stool sample with most being able to be done at clinic or in the comfort of your home.

Functional tests fall into line with the functional medicine approach and further information about this can be found on the link below:

There are many types of tests available including :

  • Gastrointestinal Tests (digestion and gut function analysis)

  • Immunology tests (allergy and antibody profiles)

  • Endocrine Tests (hormonal balance)

  • Nutritional and Toxin Status Assessments (vitamins, minerals and heavy metals)

  • Metabolic Assessments (biochemical markers)

  • Genetic Testing (affects of food and nutrients on DNA expression

Any tests you are advised to undertake are important in building a picture of the root causes of your health problems and facilitate the exploration of the underlying causes of your health concerns as well as assisting the identification of your unique profile of nutritional needs. These,  alongside your detailed health history will enable a full examination to inform your unique individualised health plan.
